Treats/diet/nutrition

So, in the bio horse world we use treats and such occasionally during ground work or after a long training session, trail ride or just a grooming session. Luckily, most of these treats are also human food. I'm not strict with my ponygirl's diet since it's not a 24/7 gig. But during play sessions I like to incorporate treats for good behavior. I'd like to hear what everyone else does though, if at all. I like to use carrots, apples, mints, oats (uncooked), sugar cubes, anyone use anything else?

Re: Treats/diet/nutrition

In our sessions, my trainer used to use apple slices and sugar cubes. We also used the little carrots (but those only when I wasn't wearing a bit).

Sometimes she would give me a little piece of jerky (I like savory food)...not authentic equine treats, but easy nonetheless smile

Re: Treats/diet/nutrition

I don't have a trainer, so I don't get any treats (sad pony). If I did have a trainer, I would want them to give me apples and carrots tongue

Re: Treats/diet/nutrition

I usually use apple slices or carrots if I'm using treats. Occasionally sugar cubes on special occasions. Usually, I use verbal reinforcement like "good" or something like that- it is easier for my trainer and gives me more immediate feedback.
