Starting out as a human pony trainer

Today I will try and answer a question I get from potential trainers: what do I do during ponyplay? Before I begin, let me point out that I'm nearly always a bottom (i.e. a pony) during ponyplay, but on a few occasions I've traded bit and bridle for top hat and crop. Having been on both ends of the reins doesn't make me an expert trainer by an means, but that won't stop me from offering my opinon :)

Let's start with a really basic scene that is appropriate for a first time pony and trainer: you (the trainer) will get your pony (from his "stall", pasture, or where ever), walk him around the room (or the yard), then put him away.

I'll give you my stripped-down take on the scene, then we'll go over how you can modify it to suit your tastes (bear with me here, it's very basic, but we'll get to the fun add-ons soon). In my version, you will need: rope, a bit gag (you can always make a bit gag out of rope), and a crop (you can use a length of rope instead if you prefer).

Start by finding your pony and tying his hands behind his back at the wrists. Once his hands are tied, put the bit in his mouth and secure it behind his head. Now take a length of rope and make some reins by tying one end to one ring of his bit gag and other end to other ring of his bit gag.

Take his reins and start leading him slowly around the room. If he resists, smack him with the crop or give a sharp tug on his reins. Make him lift his legs up high when walking, again using the crop when appropriate. Make sure he keeps his shoulders back. Do this for however long you wish, then take his bit out and untie him.

As you can see, this is a very basic scene, which I have purposely simplified further to minimize the amount of equipment you need and to minimize assumptions on what type of play you prefer. So with this basic scene in mind, let's see what we can change to make it more interesting while still keeping it simple and inexpensive:

Hopefully, it's now clear that a simple ponyplay scene (just walking your pony around) can be easily tailored to your personal tastes. Indeed, even adjusting the scene to account for additional bondage (pain, humiliation, realism, etc.) can be accomplished without having to buy anything fancy. Moreover, adding these elements in does not require any additional knowledge of, or experience with, ponyplay. And you can combine any elements (who says you can't have more bondage, more sadomasochism, and more animalization).

One more thing to keep in mind is as a triner you have a diffiult job. As a pony I pretty much have two choices on what to do: what I'm told, or not what I'm told. As a trainer though, I have to tell my pony what to do, and if she doesn't do it, I have to figure out why (did I not give the proper aids, is she misbehaving, is there a physical reason preventing her from doing it, etc.), then decide what I am going to do about. So, decide on an overall plan for your scene, but be prepared to improvise.

Also try to differentiate when you need punish your pony versus "punishing" your pony - if your pony likes to be whipped, is this really the best way to punish him when he actually misbehaves? Of course, there is nothing wrong with "bad pony" time; I think this is one the best ways to end a session (if you like that type of play).

Anyway, to conclude, I suggest starting simple: try leading your pony around with just a bit gag and add things as the scene progresses (e.g. more bondage, etc.). Talk to your pony beforehand (make sure you have both agreed on an acceptable safe signal and safeword), but don't give your whole training plan away to him. But, make sure you feel him out as the session progresses and adjust your plan and tempo accordingly. I hope I've at least giving you a rough blueprint for trying ponyplay.
